After I had a clear objective for my project the next stage was to come up with a name and then to begin the design work.
My main strategy for coming up with names was to think of lots of words I liked and note them down and then think of lots of different combinations. I ended up settling on the name ‘the happiness project’ as I feel like it sounds quiet friendly and comforting. However it’s 100% set and I am interested in the feedback i get on this from the next crit.
My next step was to start the design work. Although I had a strong idea of what I wanted on each side of the cards I had lots of different ideas for colour schemes, layout and logo ideas. I also had lots of ideas for what I wanted each card to say specifically but I started writing a lot of these down and it helped me get a better understanding of what I wanted.
I initially started on logo ideas and did a combination of sketching and working on illustrator. I am quite happy with some of these designs and think that my improved illustrator skills are showing quite well. I then moved onto layout ideas and what I wanted the packs to look like, these can also be seen below.
The final design I came up with is below. Although I am not overly happy with it I do think it is a good start and will provide me with a good basis to explain my project to the class in my next crit which is what my aim was really to do. I also think that getting the opinions of others will help me to find the flaws in this project at the moment as I am struggling to see past the very small elements at the moment such as the specifics in the design. I think my next steps will be quite dependant on the result of the crit however I would like to continue finalising the design and working more on the pack design and the mechanics of giving them out.
